Apprentice Program
The Extreme Dance Apprentice Program entitles recipient the opportunity to tour with Extreme Dance Conventions the following year and assist the Extreme Dance faculty. Dancer must be 16 years of age at time of convention and be a finalist in the scholarship auditions.
Program includes:
Complimentary admission to ALL cities on the 2011 Tour.
The opportunity to assist the faculty with their classes and competition production.
Extreme Dance will provide shared lodging in each city (double occupancy, quadruple occupancy if accompanied by a guardian).
One parent or guardian may accompany apprentice to each city. (Parent/Guardian will receive a complimentary observers band).
Transportation to each convention city and venue is the responsibility of the recipient.
There will be one apprentice selected in each city. We encourage all students who are selected to take advantage of this opportunity and attend the entire 2011 Tour.
Apprentices 2010
PAM WELLINGTON - Windsor, Ontario, CanadaPam began dancing even before she could walk but started dance training when she was three. She is highly trained in many forms of dance including jazz, lyrical, contemporary, ballet, tap and hip hop. Pam began competitive dancing at age 7 in Windsor but most recently competed for the Noretta Dunworth School of Dance in Dearborn, Michigan. Pam has been a regular attendee of the Extreme Dance Convention since 2001. During this time she has travelled all over the United States and Canada participating in competitions, conventions and dance intensives where she has had the opportunity to learn from some of the world’s best choreographers and dance teachers. Pam has also won numerous awards and scholarships including three West Coast Dance Explosion Regional Elite Dancer Titles, an Adrenaline Dance Crew Award, and the Senior Miss Adrenaline National Title 1st Runner-up award in 2008. Pam has had some professional experience having worked for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines as a dancer in 2008 and 2009. Pam is planning to attend college in Los Angeles in 2009-2010, majoring in dance. Pam is looking forward to learning more from the Extreme Dance Faculty and assisting them to accomplish their mission of “Inspire, Educate, Achieve.” |
PAIGE BODNARCHUK - Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, CanadaPaige began dancing at the age of 3 at Centre Stage Dance. She started dancing in competitions at the age of 9 and has won many awards and scholarships. Paige has trained in Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Lyrical, Hip Hop, Musical Theatre, Acro, Modern and Salsa. Paige has assisted Instructors at her studio as well as teaching her own classes of Hip Hop, Tap and Ballet. She also has completed her AIDT Exams in Tap and Jazz as well as her RAD Grade 8 and Intermediate at the vocational level in Ballet. In 2009 / 2010 school year Paige will be coaching The Dance Team at the local High School a team she danced on for 5 years. Paige has danced in the Royal City Ballet’s Nutcracker performing all over the lower mainland. As well as receiving some acting roles in McKids “Get up and Go” and Voice work in the TV Series the Adams Family. Paige will also be dancing in this years Pacific National Exabition (PNE) in Vancouver. Paige can’t waite to travel with Extreme Dance and work with their amazing faculty. She looks forward to giving young dancers “ The Love of Dance”. |
BRIANNE NOUVION - Lakeshore, Ontario, CanadaDance has been a part of Brianne’s life ever since the age of three. She began taking dance lessons at Nancy Pattison’s Dance World where she was trained in jazz, ballet, tap, lyrical and hip hop. For eight years she was a competitive dancer with the Essex County Dancers and for the past two years Brianne has been a member of The Dance Barre’s Elite Company. Competitive dance has given Brianne the opportunity to travel throughout the United States and Canada competing and studying dance. Brianne likes a challenge and believes that taking classes from many different choreographers will make her an all around better dancer. She has taken classes from world renowned choreographers such as Wade Robson, Mandy Moore, Christian Vincent, Brian Friedman, Greg Russell and of course Melissa Williams. Brianne has won numerous dance awards and scholarships that include: Tremaine Junior Dancer of the Year Finalist; a four week scholarship to the Edge Performing Arts Center in Los Angeles and one of 45 finalists from across the United States to be eligible to participate in the Dance With The Force summer program in L.A.; and a two week scholarship to the Performing Arts Centre in Los Angeles. In addition to dancing, Brianne also holds her Level 1 Ontario Gymnastic Certificate and has studied vocal, winning various awards at the Kiwanus Music Competition. Brianne has been teaching dance and gymnastics for the last three years and currently teaches dance at one of Windsor’s community centres. Brianne is very honored to have been selected for the Extreme Apprentice Program and can’t wait to be a part of the faculty this year. |
ARIN TAKEUCHI - Winnipeg, Manitoba, CanadaBeing born into a family with cousins and sisters already passionate about the art of dance, when Arin was three it was no surprise that she too entered the studio and the world of dance. For the last 16 years Arin has grown in many genres of dance including: ballet, jazz, hip hop, lyrical, contemporary and pointe. She has trained at studios throughout her hometown of Winnipeg such as Kickit Dance Studio, The Royal Winnipeg Ballet Recreational Division and The School of Contemporary Dancers as well as participating in numerous local dance groups and performance teams. She has also had the chance to travel, taking her dancing to Las Vegas, Los Angeles and Vancouver making her able to train with some of North America’s best. This has led her to many performance opportunities and roles. Opening for local artists as well as bigger names such as T-Pain and America’s Best Dance Crew’s Season 1 winners the Jabbawockeez, as well doing work on set as a dance extra in locally filmed movies are among some of Arin’s dance repertoire. Although never being vigorously involved in the competitive dance world Arin has and will continue to dance mainly for the joy and love of it. She hopes to help spread her love of dance with others while she is involved with the Extreme Dance convention in the 2010 season. |
KATELYN PEMOELLER - Winnipeg, Manitoba, CanadaKatelyn has been dancing for 17 years at a local dance studio in Winnipeg called The Dance Centre. She has grown as a person and as a dancer through the years that she has devoted herself to competitions, recitals and for the past 5 years, choreographing for her students. She has also taken the time to travel to Los Angeles for the past 4 years to attend classes at EDGE Performing Arts Centre and just recently, to Toronto as a guest at Randolph Academy of Performing Arts for a week. She is extremely thankful for the awards and scholarships that she has won throughout the years, her first one being awarded at the age of 12 at the Manitoba Provincial Dance Festival. Through her studio she has attained her Grade 6, Intermediate, Advanced 1 and Advanced 2 I.S.T.D. ballet certificates and knows that she could not have achieved those certificates without her teacher, Joanne Tokaryk. From jazz to hip hop, ballet to lyrical, tap to modern and pointe to contemporary, Katelyn has trained in them all and has grown a true love for dance and could not imagine herself doing anything else. If it wasn't for Melissa awarding her an apprentice position for the 2010 tour, Katelyn would be in school studying to be a nurse! Just imagine how excited and grateful she is to be dancing next to an amazing faculty and amazing dancers all sharing their passion for dance. |
CHELSEA COFIELD - Courtenay, British Columbia, CanadaChelsea started her dance training at the age of three at Valley Dance Centre in Courtenay British Columbia under the artistic direction of Amanda Rodgers. She instantly fell in love and began expanding her knowledge in all forms of dance such as jazz, hip hop, lyrical, modern stage, ballet, pointe, irish, contemporary, and salsa. At the age of twelve she started to compete with solos and received several bursaries and scholarships along the way. She received the “Most Potential Dancer Award" at the Centre Stage competition at the age of twelve. Chelsea has been the North Island representative at the Provincials both in 2005 and 2008. She has been lucky enough to have had the opportunity to train with many dancers and choreographers in L.A. as well as all over B.C. and Vancouver Island. Many of these opportunities were made possible when Chelsea started dancing at CR Dancextreme in Campbell River, directed by Shawna Sloan and Buddy Mynatt. She most recently attended the Drive Dance Centre Scholarship program in Vancouver and trained at the Edge Performing Arts Center in Los Angeles. Chelsea is very excited to assist and have the opportunity to work with the very talented Extreme Dance faculty. |
LAKNA EDIRISINGHE - Windsor, Ontario, CanadaLakna has been dancing since the age of three. Starting with ballet at a local community center, her fondness for the art form turned into more than just a hobby. She trained at Edmunds Towers School of Dance in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, and hip hop. Since the age of 12 she has been competing as part of the Windsor Competitive Dance Team, allowing her to travel across the United States and Canada winning numerous scholarships enabling her to train with some of the finest choreographers and dancers in the continent and abroad. She has trained at Millennium Dance Center in Los Angeles, California. Hip hop is Lakna’s forte and she is proud to say that she has been an assistant at her studio for the past two years. She also choreographed high-scoring hip hop dances for her team. Currently, Lakna hopes to pursue a career in dance while attending the University of Toronto studying film. She is thrilled and honoured to travel around and work with the Extreme Dance faculty this year. |
Apprentices 2009
LEAH EVOLA - Amherstburg, Ontario, CanadaLeah Evola started her dance career at the age of 10. She instantly fell in love with it and at the age of 13 she joined Nancy Pattisons competitive dance team. Since then she has won many awards and scholarships, trips to New York and Los Angeles, and the Choreographer Of The Year Award. Leah dances on The Catz Meow competitive team, and has for the past three years. Leah also models for many charity events , fashion shows, and hair salons. Leah can’t wait to travel with the Extreme faculty and see where her love of dance takes her next. |
DAMIEN LAVERGNE - Winnipeg, Manitoba, CanadaDamien has been dancing since the age of five. He has studied ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop and lyrical at Marquis Dance Academy in Winnipeg. Damien has received numerous awards and scholarships at conventions and competitions at home and abroad. These include world championship titles and medals at the I.D.O. World Jazz Championships and at the Ballet World Cup. Last year in Germany, Damien earned a gold medal with his tap team and made the finals for his solos at both the World Tap Championships and the World Showdance championships. He has also attended two summer sessions with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Professional Division and has studied dance in Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Buffalo, New York and Toronto. Damien is thrilled to have the opportunity to assist the Extreme Dance faculty, and is looking forward to an exciting year of dance. |
SAMANTHA PASSA - Windsor, Ontario, CanadaAfter seeing the Nutcracker every Christmas as a child, Samantha's interest and passion for dance was forever sparked. Since then she has danced at Edmunds Towers School of Dance for the last 15 years, training most prominently in ballet, tap, lyrical, contemporary, and jazz. At the age of 9 she began dancing and competing on the Windsor Competitive Dance Team, traveling throughout the United States and Canada. Dancing competitively opened her eyes to the many opportunities dancing can bring and intensified her love for the art. In addition to dancing at Edmunds Towers, Samantha has had the chance to dance at the Performing Arts Center in Los Angeles as well as winning a scholarship to train at the Quinte Ballet School in Belleville, Ontario. Currently, Samantha enthusiastically teaches ballet, tap, and jazz at her studio and has assisted the dance team and regular dance classes prior to teaching. Dancing, though challenging at times, is what pushes her to be the best that she can be. Dancing is Samantha's heart and soul as she knows she could never live without it and hopes to continue doing it for the rest of her life. |
COURTNEY NADURAK - Campbell River, British Columbia, CanadaCourtney has been dancing since the age of three. She has grown to love the theater and is passionate about dancing. She began her training at Danettes School of Dance which has recently been changed to CR Dance Xtreme with new artistic directors Shawna Sloan and Buddy Mynatt; two very successful dancers from Los Angeles. She has been dancing competitively for over 7 years, allowing her to become a versatile dancer and performer. Through her years she has won numerous scholarships, awards and bursaries allowing her to explore the industry. Courtney was cast in Cabaret as a “Kit Kat girl” last summer in the Showcase Theatre Festival and recently received an award for “Most Dedicated Dancer.” Continuously, Courtney is honored for her passion and dedication for dancing, and can only hope that one day she can be successful in the dancing industry. |
SHANA NOWLIN - Calgary, Alberta, CanadaShana has been dancing and performing since the age of 3. She has been training in ballet, contemporary, tap, jazz, hip-hop, lyrical, and ballroom throughout North America. Her extensive training and performing experience has led her to winning numerous awards and scholarships throughout Canada and the United States. She has had the opportunity to work with Alberta Ballet, M.A.D.D Rhythms and a wide selection of internationally known choreographers. Shana has been teaching acro, jazz, lyrical, tap and musical theatre as well as producing high scoring choreography. Shana also trains in voice and has been for over 12 years, performing in various performances and competitions. Shana is greatly looking forward to assisting Extreme Dance and excited to grow and learn from this experience. |
SAMANTHA MARENTETTE - Windsor, Ontario, CanadaSamantha began her dance training at the age of three with Nancy Pattison’s Dance World. Starting out with only tap dancing, her passion for the art lead her to many different styles of dance that she still loves today, such as Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Modern, Hip Hop and Lyrical. From the ages 10 to 18 she danced competitively with the Essex County Dancers where she was blessed to win scholarships from numerous conventions including Tremaine Dance Conventions, LA Dance Magic, LA Dance Force, Jump, West Coast Dance Explosion, and Extreme Dance. These scholarships led her to Los Angeles, California where she studied at The Edge Performing Arts Center for two weeks, taking classes from various talented choreographers. Samantha finished competing after she graduated from high school and is currently working toward her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Dance at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI. She is the proud recipient of the Maggie Allesee Talent Scholarship and is beginning her junior year this fall. Samantha also teaches Ballet, Jazz and Hip Hop classes at The Dance Barre. Upon graduation from Wayne State, Samantha plans to work toward pursuing her dream of becoming a professional dancer. She cannot wait to work along side the amazing Extreme Dance faculty and is hoping to inspire young dancers in the same manner that this faculty has inspired her over the past 10 years. |
KRISTIE MOY - Belle River, Ontario, CanadaKristie has been dancing since the age of two and has been trained in various forms of dance including jazz, tap, ballet, lyrical, contemporary, and hip hop. At the age of seven she began competing across Canada and the United States. She has been the recipient of numerous awards as a member of a competitive dance team and has earned many awards and scholarships as an individual. Kristie has studied at the Millennium Dance Center in Los Angeles, California and has had many opportunities to learn from various prestigious choreographers. In addition to competing and studying dancing, she has been teaching for the past five years. Kristie enjoys sharing her passion for dance with her students at The Dance Barre. Most recently she has begun to provide choreography for competitive teams. While Kristie is attending the University of Windsor and is in her second year of the nursing program, she continues to pursue her aspirations to further her dance career and looks forward to her future as a performer, teacher, and choreographer. She is excited and honoured to have the opportunity to travel with Extreme Dance and work with the amazing faculty this year. |
SHAYLEE MacDERMID - Vancouver, British Columbia, CanadaShaylee began dancing at CentreStage Dance at the age of 4. She has studied many different styles including Jazz, Lyrical, Hip-Hop, Modern, Ballet and Tap. Shaylee proudly teaches Hip-Hop, Jazz and Musical Theatre at her studio and has been assisting for three years. Through her years as a dancer, she has won numerous high score and judges choice awards and has had the chance to work with top named choreographers at many workshops and conventions. Shaylee hopes to furthur her training with the Extreme Dance Apprenticeship program and one day pursue her dream of becoming a professional dancer. |
Apprentices 2008
COREY MARIUZ - Windsor, Ontario, CanadaCorey is a seasoned performer. He has been trained in jazz, tap, ballet, lyrical, hip hop and other styles as well since the age of 6. He has received scholarships enabling him to dance at Edge Performing Arts Center as well as the Performing Arts Center in Los Angeles and Broadway Dance Center in New York City. Corey has attended Canada's Royal Winnipeg Ballet School Professional Division Summer School twice and was accepted on both occasions into their full time program along with National Ballet School in Toronto. He studies dance theatre and vocal at Walkerville Collegiate Center for the Creative Arts. He has performed in well over 20 musicals carrying lead roles such as Tulsa in Gypsy, Oliver in Oliver, Colin Craven in Secret Garden, and Mr Mistoffelees in Cats. Corey has choreographed fashion shows, and several Broadway style musicals. He has had the opportunity to model and hold a lead role in The Prey with Adventureville Productions an independent film. |
LEIGHA MARIE SBITNEY - Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
Leigha is a vibrant 17-year-old girl who has studied tap, jazz, lyrical, musical theatre and everything in between. Leigha started dancing at the age of four at Dance Theme ltd. She’s performed in many shows, on a cruise ship, at Disney World, Disney Land and Sea World, and really appreciates the advantages she’s been given as a dancer. Leigha’s taken countless workshops and conventions and won scholarships all over Canada and the US and hopes to further increase her training with the Extreme Dance Apprentice program. Her goal is to make a career out of her dancing, singing, modeling and acting and would love to one day be an all around triple threat. Leigha awaits this years apprenticeship knowing it’ll be one of her greatest opportunities to learn and grow from.
BRITTANY MATLOCK - Windsor, Ontario, Canada
Brittany has danced at Edmunds Towers School of Dance since the age of two. Since then she has grown to love and develop a passion for the art. She then began dancing on a competitive dance team, which allowed her to learn many different styles of dance including: ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, hip-hop, salsa, contemporary and more. Through her years as a dancer she has won numerous scholarships which has allowed her to dance at the Edge Performing Arts Center, The Performing Arts Center and Millennium Dance Center all in Los Angeles. Brittany proudly teaches lyrical and hip-hop classes at her studio and has assisted for four years. Besides dance she has been lucky enough to also do some local modeling as well. But as she continues dancing she can only hope to one day purse her dream of becoming a professional dancer.
DAVIN FURTADO - Winnipeg, MB
I have been dancing for the past 5 years and currently train in jazz, ballet, lyrical, and hip hop. For the past 4 years I’ve assisted and taught at The Dance Centre here in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I teach up to 6 hip hop classes week. Teaching is very rewarding as I can share my passion for dance with the students. I have taught hip hop workshops across Winnipeg and performed for Fresh I.E at the 2004 friendship festival. This past year I was honored to perform for an up coming artist Sketch Williams during an interview and kick off his new album at his Cd release party. I recently studied dance in Los Angeles at the world-renowned Edge performing arts, it was an experience of a life time. So far this year I was awarded Elite Gold in the 2007 Canadian National Dance Competition and 1st place in a solo performance choreographed by myself. I love the challenge and athleticism of dance and can’t see myself doing anything else.
MICHELLE BIBEAU - Windsor, Ontario, Canada
Michelle Bibeau currently attending St. Joseph’s High School in Windsor, Ontario began her dancing at the age of three, taking ballet, tap, and jazz classes. Now at age seventeen Michelle continues to be extremely passionate about it. She became a competitive dancer at the age of nine and has attended various competitions, conventions and dance programs including a summer program at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School. Through these many years of dance Michelle has worked hard and gained recognition through awards and scholarships. As the past was pleasant for Michelle she has great expectations for the future. Through these expectations for herself Michelle would greatly want to relocate herself to pursue her passion; dance.
SABRINA BHACHU - Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Sabrina’s passion for dancing began at the age of four at Rori’s Dance Academy. With many awards/scholarships from competitions/workshops across B.C. and the U.S., Sabrina has gained intensive training from a variety of well-respected choreographers from all around the world. Recently returning from Torino, Italy where she represented Canada in the closing ceremonies at the 2006 Olympic Winter Games, Sabrina puts this experience at the top of her career so far and feels it was an honor. She is currently in Source Dance Co. and for the past 5 years, she has performed at the PNE in various shows. Thank You to the faculty at Extreme Dance, for giving me this great opportunity!
